Meet Me in the Middle- Beyond the Book Resources
At the time of this writing, our world is once again in a bit of a mess. Everyone seems to be taking a stand, putting on blinders, and refusing to even listen to those who see the world differently. Sadly this type of thinking is spilling over into our classrooms and playgrounds. Childhood is changing and so much needs to be done to try and preserve this precious time. Childhood is when we're supposed to dream, create, and have fun. We need to reclaim childhood and show children that there are so many ways to look at the world. There world is where we need to start and this book does exactly that!
In my own humble opinion, New York Times bestselling author, entrepreneur, and internet guru Gary Vaynerchuk "gets it". He may not be a teacher, but he's using this great story to teach an incredible lesson that covers important character traits like appreciating the differences of others, developing patience, and maintaining a positive attitude.
With this sweet story, Vaynerchuk opens up the lines of communication in a way that young children will understand. The book is two-sided with one half showing us Patient Pig's point of view and the other half showing us the exact same story from Eager Eagle's point of view. The story shows a characters with different levels of skills and struggles in basketball, but still get out there and try, listen to and accept the help of others, realize that it's fun to participate and try...even when you're struggling.

Extend the Learning with Story-Based Play
Adding an element of play is another way to deepen your child’s understanding of concepts within and beyond a story. According to Hall (1991), young children often develop advanced literacy skills when they engage in play related to a familiar story. Many complex literacy skills develop naturally when the story and play intersect, setting the stage for your child to learn to read and write.
It’s easy. Take a great story, gather toys that align with that story, and get out of the way. Your child will do the rest. The goal is to allow the play to evolve naturally. You’ll be surprised by the amount of learning transferred and reinforced through this type of play.
Here’s Why We Love These Specific Products:
They have direct connections to the book.
They reinforce new vocabulary.
They encourage imaginative play
They make it easy to re-enact parts of the story.
They often take learning beyond the confines of the story.
Few require batteries, screens, or electricity.
