He Truly "Got It"

When I was a child, my mother learned about parenting from Dr. Benjamin Spock's book, Baby & Child Care. When my children were little, I read What Every Baby Knows and Touchpoints  by T. Berry Brazelton, M.D.
Dr. Brazelton taught me so much about parenting. He approached motherhood from the same warm, fuzzy place that I already inhabited. He truly "got" how special the parent-child bond had the potential to be.  Here are just a few of this man's  groundbreaking accomplishments:
  • The notion of mother-infant bonding, now assumed among early-childhood experts, grew out of his research.
  • He  encouraged a return to natural childbirth, breastfeeding and the ability of parents to stay with a hospitalized child.
  • He worked with Congress to help pass parental leave legislation and other parent-friendly measures.
I only recently read about his passing in 2018, just a few months short of his 100th birthday.

Here's a peek at this incredible man's life.

And here's my favorite Brazelton quote:
"Reading to children at night, responding to their smiles with a smile, returning their vocalizations with some of your own, touching them, holding them - all of these further a child's brain development and future potential, even in the earliest months." ~ T. Berry Brazelton
